Our mission

The Oceans is Earth’s climate engine — regulating weather, storing heat, and driving the systems that make our planet habitable. Yet, despite its importance, the ocean remains one of the least explored parts of our world. To confront climate change and understand its impact, we need more and better ocean data — and that’s where Sail for Science comes in.

Our mission has two main goals:

  1. Collect valuable ocean data sustainably
We gather high-quality oceanographic data using our near-zero-emission sailboat and submit it to global ocean data repositories, where it becomes freely available to scientists worldwide.
  2. Empower sailors as citizen scientists
We inspire and train the global community of cruising sailors to take part in ocean research — demonstrating modern CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) measuring system, teaching how to use them onboard, and showing how every voyage can contribute to real science.

Together, these efforts create a bridge between ocean explorers and ocean researchers — transforming everyday sailing into meaningful scientific collaboration. This shared work helps fill critical gaps in ocean data and brings citizen science to a new level.
